Booth heard Lincon speak the day before he killed him. Lincoln spoke about blacks voting.

Booth was from a culture (a reward system) that gave power, prestige, and passion to those men who outdid other men in hating equality for blacks -- the idea that blacks could vote drove Booth into action.

People seem ignorant of the effect of culture on men's activity. In a very real sense, Booth was trying to get to the top of his culture - to get the most attention, power, prestige, passion, that he could. He had to outdo the other guys.

He saw killing Lincoln as a way to get those rewards. He would be the hero --the star. He would be lavished with praise, attention, sex, fame.

It was the praise, attention, sex and fame he wanted. Killing was basically a means to an end.

If Booth had been in a culture that rewarded freedom for slaves -- he would have had an entirely different reaction of course to Lincoln's speech, because he would have a different group of people to impress.

He would still want the same victory over other men to get the power, prestige, passion. He would just be singing a differnt tune - but he would still want the applause at the end of the song.

We often examine a person's specific action -- Booth shooting LIncoln, Oswald shooting Kennedy - McVeigh killing kindergarten kids.

What were they really doing? They were tying to compete for power, prestige, and passion in that culture. It's timem we examine the power of culture -- which is really just a reward system.

There are vile cultures -- there are healthy cultures. The Nazi culture, for example, was based on violence and superiority of one race. The slave culture in the USA was pretty much the same.

So how do these cultures form? What group of people was Booth trying to impress?

So if you talk about people's actions, but you just don't have a clue about their culture, then you aren't really understanding anything.

My daughter wants to attend our shiny new middle school for the third grade-problem is she is already working at third grade level and she is technically in "first grade". So I am contemplating just doing lots of hands on stuff for a year to hold her at third grade skill level but my hubs isn't too keen on that idea- for obvious reasons. We'll see how it goes. My youngest is dead set on going to public kindergarten and I think it would be a good choice for her- as she struggles to do anything by herself- she always needs to interact with others. Hope this part of your journey works out for you!

God has a plan that is far better and adequate than ours! Your spirits be up, afterall...you still have your beautiful family. Though, if a fulltime job means shaved legs...you may want to reconsider!:)

Maybe it was a good thing. I loved BABY'S hair with her recent haircut, but I REALLY love the
REQUIRED haircut. It is perfect for her face shape. I remember looking on the internet last summer for styles for her face shape which is very much like my sister from across the country. BABY'S NEW LOOK is adorable. But, I hope she leaves the haircuts to the adults in the future. GRAMMY.

What a vintage look. It reminds me of an old movie I saw with Clark Gable...can't remember the name but the girl is a doll with that exact look! It really brings out her warm eyes!

The mullet is coming back!!! Baby's hair cut looks adorable too. We loved getting to see the girlies last weekend. They all three look so cute in these pictures. Love their creativity (nice job on the bathroom wall Mimi - just remember , we don't write on the walls at grandma's house!) Bubba looks so grown up playing her guitar. We loved the personal recital last weekend. We love you all!
